Heya folks! Been busy...(my usual excuse) Lol.. been thinking about updating but just could not find the time and i've not been painting for my own leisure at all. So here are some personal works done a few months ago. I just miss playing those top scrolling aeroplane/fighter games. I mean..what on earth happened to them? The game industry is just over saturated with RPGs,FPS, Drive Simulations etc etc.. all the confusing espionage, over realistic driving experience and often long winded RPGs. Games no longer sell gameplays, they sell hardcore graphics and lame stories. Im no hardcore gamer to be complainin but i do appreciate it when peeps come up with Loco Roco, Patapon, Odin Sphere. I mean c'mon just because you can go 3D you no longer use 2D? Thats just wrong man.. Anyways, enough of rants and here are some sprites for my own fighter game (if it ever happens :D).

Oh btw, i'll be at AFA this weekend with Storm Lion so if anyone is interested, do drop by to say hi and buy a poster from me :D (shameless meeee)

So i'll be leaving my country for my new job at Storm Lion on the 26th of Oct in the lovely land of Singapore. Still packing, still finishing off some work and still feeling drowsy. Nevertheless im very excited about the whole thing, working in a new environment and making new friends. Just thinking about working with Zid, Puppeteer, Skan, Julian (Lefty), Edmund & Friends is already a gift by itself.

This would prolly be my last post from M'sia and it might be a while before you guys hear from me again so before i leave i would obviously like to thank PR for the wonderful experience. Thank you all at PR from the earliest members to the latest. My hats off to you guys and best of luck in everything.

Learned a hell lot of stuff within these 3 years i seriously feel the age factor kicking in ><. To everyone reading this, i hope things has been working out for everyone (i know it has been a tough year) so keep believing and keep working on your goals and dreams. Be patient be mindful.

teaser trailer again.

I must admit that i did not find it appealing at first but its starting to grow
on me now. Planet Pandora is simply wicked! Thing about Jim is that its never about the action
and the VFX, instead its always down to the characters and the heart in the story AND i believe
Avatar is gonna be great as a movie experience in the big screen...

Yes im from dinosaur age and im outdated but i only recently got my hands on Geof Darrow's Hard Boiled Graphic Novel. Apparently its not available in my "beloved" country because the comic is not about camels and pyramids.

But Check this out, Hard Boiled is an Ass kickin, Balls Smashing piece of work. With Geof Darrow as the cover/interior artist and Frank Miller as the writer.. you cant go wrong. Hard Boiled is filled with eye candy for those who enjoy pictures more than words and still have a creatively written story. Every page takes you at least 10 minutes to finish seeing the amount of detail Mr. Darrow puts in and the hardwares look so good like i could grab it off the page.

Bottom line, must read and i cant wait to get my hands on 'Shaolin Cowboy' and 'Big Guy & Rusty'

Old skool Sci Fi stuff... all that 2001 i've been watching. I always thought that lots of sci fi today tend to deviate from realism.What happened to those NASA looking rockets? It became sorta like what i would call Fantasy Sci Fi coz they just turn more fantastical rather than science based. It's like fantasy in space. Anyways, enough of blabering.. just wanted to play with some classic sci fi and John Berkey kinda stuff. This is so cool. Ever since MGS digital graphic novel, animated shorts like these seems to be an alternative to big budget animations and this short proves that you can achieve quite a huge amount and variety of content even in this limited medium. I've always been thinking about my KAMI project wether to push for a full3D short or this sort of short limited 2D animations.

A Kiss From Tokyo is very well executed from a film's point of view and it manage to pull of old skool film elements such as composited life smoke and explosions, the cuts and fades are classical and i especially adore the multi planing effect on the background of that "Alfred Hitchcock" car ride thing.. Awesome.

Okay so i digg graphic design and i love movie posters :D and i had a great opportunity to work on a movie poster for a friend of mine. Dick Chua, an upcoming film Director in Malaysia's film scene. He wanted something retro, graphic, and simple. So this is what we settled with in the end. I did a bunch of different versions but this just felt right. There are way too many awesome entries this year around.. I'll name em later,Not done going through all the entries yet. To those who manage to finish, i salute you. It was one hell of a fun ride doing this. There was a point when i did not even care about submissions lol.. so as you can see the layout of the works are pretty...pre mature. lol.As its obvious too that i failed misserably at the "comic cover" style.. (Honestly i wish i came up with a more original concept) Lesson learned.

Wepons Final

Im currently working on the final beauty pose for Grawnn, so until thats done here are more of the weapons. If you guys aren't sick of it yet :D. Painted over this but am not happy with the layout at all. Ergh! But no more time for this. I have to finish by final piece and thank god for the extentsion. :D

For the final illustration, im trying to push for this 80s-early 90s heavy metal comic style. Sorta like the Grindhouse of comics lol. Artists like Simon Bisley and etc...Hardcore Gritty kickass Sh!T

STAR TREK

Just watched it with my bro and gosh. Jaw Dropping..*Spoiler ahead
-Romulans were BAD!! ASS!!! Visual quality is by far most epic (of course not compared to 2001)
-Storyline was 7/10 for me but treatment is top notch! Most importantly, i think there's heart in it.
-The most flare/lens flare/bokeh i have ever seen in one film and done very stylishly. Love it!
- CG was of course top notch aswell (ILM, so ...yea)
- San Fran got drilled by the Romulans..why not KL? lol (ILM says "ah,..we can just get the principal photography outside of our office. We can see Golden Gate very well from here.)
-Music lived up to the epic-ness and still had a very classic thing going.

All of all 6and a half to 7 out of 10 for me. Thats pretty damn high, 2001 Space Odyssey to me is 9/10. So for a typical Hollywood film, thats pretty high :D. I think it's gonna be my fav film of the year... what? transformers? lol, i dont know man...more robots, not sure if its a good thing, but i'll give Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci a chance since Star Trek was good? Hmmm.. Terminator? Hope the story has some heart in it. Only film to look forward to now is James Cameron's AVATAR..
I feel so geeky. Such a sad thing that Star Trek seems so dead around here. No publisity whatsoever. Everyone is focusing on Wolverine.. gee c'mon! I mean, a guy with a funny hairdo running around with his claws that could cut through a helicopter's propeller? Just does not work for me man... sorry. Ooppss.. blabbered too much.

Weapons for Mr. Grawnny lol. Yeap, 3D. Was just having fun with this. Reminds me of those 3D galsses you put on in 3D cinemas.

They are still pretty plain and primitive coz i have not painted over it yet. Just simple primitive polys.. Trying to keep the machinery raw so no polish surfaces..Just the chasis i guess :D

I think i should just settle with the one at the top. The lower one i wanted to go for a design like that villain in ninja turtles, the one with the brain dude in the stomach of a huge giant. *Shrugs. If im gonna go for the lower one im gonna add Hotrod engines on the top of his back.. now thats hot!

Just got back from Melacca and wow...such a wonderful experience.. I'll share some photos here soon.

Aight aight...enuff of youtubing. Back to work! Some updates for DW and reason for them being so small is coz in GameArtisans this is as big as an image gets. Which is sad really... The last piece is a comparison between two Cyborgs. (i dont thin they look cyborg'ish anymore though) I like the dual saw weapon on the top Armament #1.. i dont know. I still think there's nothing special with the designs..just the usual cliche droid-ish design.. Gotta get out of all these!
